Emily’s Bad Day
Poor Emily had a rough one today. She was charming and wonderful and great throughout, but things just didn't go her way.
We went out to the Silver Comet trail to ride our bikes (all four of us). About 2 miles into the ride, we stopped for some water. About 2 sips into that we realized that Emily was standing in the middle of a bed of fire ants. 🙁
Five minutes and five thousand flicked-off ants later, we got underway again. About 3 miles later, Emily hollered that we should STOP…she thought she was being bitten by fire ants still. We stopped. She was. Turned out a couple of them managed to wiggle their way into her shirt. One bite dead center of her chest, two more on her back. 🙁
Two minutes and lots of hugs and a well-checked-out shirt later, we got underway again. About 2.5 miles later Emily slipped a front tire off the edge of the trail, overcorrected, and laid herself out flat on the (concrete) trail. Scrapes and scratches on both knees, both elbows and both palms, and lots of tears. Only half a mile back to the car…could she make it? Yes, she thought so. 🙁
Back to the car and all went well from that point on. Hey, we did get in eight miles today! Not too bad for a 5-year-old, a 7-year-old and two out-of-shape parents. 🙂
