Ultralite Laptops vs. Big Desktop Replacement Laptops
Glenn Reynolds is playing with a new toy today, but reading his post, it occurs to me that I hardly ever touch a desktop computer anymore. Several months ago I bought a new Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop to replace my aging Toshiba-with-the-sorry-screen, and there's almost nothing that I haven't migrated to the laptop.
My wife loves it that I can sit in the living room and fool around with the computer, and I love that I can travel and have everything close at hand. But the laptop is fairly heavy, and the wireless access is cumbersome.
So now, I'm stuck with this dilemma: If I had a smaller, more portable laptop (like Glenn's ultralite), would I still do everything on it? Or would it be more of a “travelling toy”? I like my big 15″ screen on my laptop, but it is pretty heavy to lug around, plus the wireless access is a little bit cumbersome since the NIC sticks out of the side of the machine when it's plugged in.
I dunno. This is a question that won't get answered today…
