COOL!

Blogware is so cool.  I'm telling you, this thing is awesome.

Today I discovered — just mucking around — that you can essentially upload an entire website completely separate from the blog!

If you've got static .htm pages, you can upload them to your Blogware site using FTP.  Upload an index.htm page to the root directory, and guess what happens?  That's right, it's selected as the default page (you can link to /blog to display your blog contents).  If there's no index.htm, then your blog is displayed by default.

What makes this so cool is that it's even easier than I thought to merge “conventional” websites with bloggish ones.  An example is the website for the consulting firm where I work.

Our main website is pretty much a conventional, static website.  But, we also have a news site where we post daily links to articles we've found in the news that our clients might find interesting.  That portion of the site is handled with a Blogware blog, and it works great.  The rest of the site (the main entry point, if you will) currently resides on another server and simply links to the news site.

But now I realize that I can do the entire site on Blogware, which is VERY COOL.  Kudos (again) to Ross and the boys at TUCOWS.  You guys rock!

Eric: Using blog tools for non-blog purposes is one of my current interests. I just finished a site for a client that isn't a blog, but is 100% powered by JournURL under the hood. (corporatecollections.com)
The owner can now update her content with the ease of a blogging app, but without the rigid, blogish interface conventions.

That's a perfect use for blogging software! In fact, I did the same thing for my ISP; the entire site is maintained with Movable Type. Works great, and makes it easier to update…therefore updates happen more regularly, which is good for PageRank!
