TypeKey: Passport for Weblogs?
After two minutes with the FAQ and homepage it seems to me that TypeKey is little more than Microsoft's Passport
for weblogs. And since nobody but Microsoft uses Passport for
anything of value (in fact, I'm not sure even Microsoft's use of
Passport qualifies as “valuable”), I wonder if that means that TypeKey
is doomed to the same level of obscurity.
No doubt, Ben and Mena
have lots of eyeballs, and a sizable list of folks who will implement
TypeKey without a second thought if it's easy enough. They're
bound to get some adoption simply because I'm betting it'll be built in
to Movable Type 3.0 in a way that makes it stupid-simple to implement (something that I never believed Passport was), but ultimately this seems like a hopelessly complicated and not-terribly-effective barrier to “comment spam“.
Of course, I don't have the answer, either. I'm just sitting here
blathering on about it, but since I've got the floor (and don't I
always have the floor here on my own blog?!), I guess I'm entitled.
