Ouch! (2004-5-30)

I managed to sprain my ankle pretty badly today.  I'm still not entirely sure how it happened.  My father-in-law and I were putting up crown moulding in the kitchen.  I had just come in with a piece and was test fitting it only to find that I had cut it too short (for the second [...]

Reading Binary Files in ASP (2004-5-25)

My friend Elton came to me with a head-scratcher today.  He needs to be able to have an ASP script return an image to the browser, so that he can write an HTML page like this: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Sample Page</TITLE></HEAD><BODY><img src=”/getAnImage.asp”></BODY></HTML> See how the script is the target of the IMG tag? The script itself has several [...]

Shrek 2: Meet the Parents (2004-5-24)

If you liked the original Shrek (and, c'mon, who didn't?!), you'll like Shrek 2.  The sequel opens with a recap of the story of what was supposed to happen to Princess Fiona.  As written in storybook form, the Princess (afflicted with a terrible curse that turned her into an ogress after dark), was locked away [...]

Impending Hard Drive Failure? (2004-5-24)

Seems like the hard drive on my laptop — my primary computer — is about to croak.  I came into the office this morning to find it stumbling around, and it sounded like it was hacking up hairballs.  I've got it running a full scan now (which should take hours).  We'll see what comes of [...]

Feeling Lonely (2004-5-23)

Yesterday I switched to a new spam filtering system (one we'll be offering to customers at Atl-Connect shortly), and today I'm beginning to feel a bit lonely.  Email comes in so infrequently now, it's like I'm not loved anymore.  In the past, I was filtering spam three different ways.  First, my mail server rejected mail from [...]

I'm OK, Really (2004-5-18)

Looking back, I realize that I've been pretty quiet blog-wise in the past couple of weeks.  Not to worry.  Quiet, in this context, is a good thing. Since I quit my job and started focusing full-time on my ISP, I've been a busy little boy.  I've nearly completed a switchover of our dial-up services to [...]

The Past, Only Better (2004-5-18)

Special thanks to the folks at TUCOWS (and to Tom, for reasons that he already knows), all of my old blog entries which were previously stored here as simple archives are now in Blogware proper and searchable from the main page.  A bit of cleanup to do yet — I'm going to modify some of [...]

Happy Mothers Day! (2004-5-10)

Thanks to some interesting erosion problems, Donna decided she wanted a dry creek bed on the side of the yard.  Two days of backbreaking labor, 10 bales of pinestraw, untold bags of topsoil and soil amendment, and 3,000 pounds of rock later, here it is.  Happy Mothers Day, Donna!
