I managed to sprain my ankle pretty badly today. I'm still not entirely sure how it happened.
My father-in-law and I were putting up crown moulding in the kitchen. I had just come in with a piece and was test fitting it only to find that I had cut it too short (for the second time). I turned to walk back outside to get a new piece of moulding, and the next thing I knew I went down hard.
I honestly don't know if I was standing on the stool I was using to reach the ceiling (I'm pretty tall — 6'6″ — but still needed a boost) and managed to step off it in a strange way, or if I was standing on the floor and somehow stepped on the stool on my way out of the kitchen. Either way, my ankle twisted underneath me, I hit the floor hard, and I cracked my elbow on a table on the way down. It hurt so bad at first I was nauseous.
Now I'm holed up in my recliner, playing with the computer, with the ankle well wrapped in an ACE bandage. I've got a brace to use when I try to walk, and I'm following the recommendations from WebMD (though I'm not looking forward to the prospect of contrast baths, which just sounds like medieval torture to me).
