XP Service Pack 2 (2004-10-30)

I took the plunge today and installed Windows XP Service Pack 2.  The reports have generally been good, and I've only run into one application that really and truly doesn't work under XPSP2 (it's a vertical-market sign making application).  Cross your fingers.   I'll post an update if I run into any problems, although I'm not [...]

The Next Terrorist Attack (2004-10-22)

I'm pretty sure I've put all the pieces together, and I know what the next big terrorist attack is going to be.  As you might expect, the chain of evidence is fragile, but I'm almost certain that I know what's coming.  Unfortunately, I can't determine where it'll happen, but I've got some ideas. Bear with me [...]

ISO Recorder Power Toy: File this under “must-have free Windows XP extensions“.  ISO Recorder Power Toy is a UI component that allows to use CD-Recording capabilities of Windows XPr to record ISO images and copy CD to CD – a piece of functionality missing in Windows XPr The ISO Recorder itself does not record CDs [...]

Dell's $399 Deal Is On Again (2004-10-11)

New zConnect Site Is UP (2004-10-11)

The new zConnect website is online now.  Still plenty of work to do to get all of the other bits and pieces moved over to the new look and feel, but this is a major improvement over the old, text-heavy site.

New Toy! (2004-10-5)

Yesterday I received a new BlackBerry 7230 for a three-month trial from T-Mobile.  Pretty nice little gizmo.  This one is a full-blown PDA, with calendar, memo pad, task list, and contact manager, but it also includes an excellent cell phone and email capabilities.  I haven't brought it fully online yet (that is to say that [...]

Tech Optimism Is Back (2004-10-1)

USA Today says that Tech Optimism Is Back.  It looks like tech optimism is back in fashion. Here come the glowing press reports about “the next big thing.” USA Today starts us off by noticing that the internet is now poised to go to a new level. While we've pretty much reached the point on [...]

Another Firefox Convert (2004-10-1)

The Firefox Web Browser is starting to get a lot more recognition as a top-notch browser.  Charles Cooper has a piece about Firefox on CNET News.com today: …after being tossed the gauntlet, I finally loaded Firefox at home. To my surprise, the product won me over in short order. I love its pop-up blocker, as [...]
