Trackback Ping Spam
So, we finally found a way to keep the CommentSpammers at bay, and they’ve figured out that the same problem exists with Trackbacks, namely that as long as you understand the API, you can build software to send a trackback to a blog and in many cases it will be accepted and published to a webpage without question.
Today I cleared 3 TrackbackPingSpams from one of my (low, low traffic) blogs. I don’t get notifications of Trackbacks on my Blogware blog, but presumably, there’s some crap in there, too. I’ll have to go check. (UPDATE: No, there’s none, which is curious to me. The pages that have been spammed are ultra-low traffic, and don’t even rate a PageRank in Google. There are pages on my personal blog that have a PR of 4…wouldn’t those be the obvious targets for spamming??)
