Not a slug
Forgive me readers, for I have sinned. It has been four weeks since my last blog posting…
I know it seems like I’m a slug, but really, I’m not. I’ve been just about under water for the past month with at least two fairly major projects underway and a slew of other little things taking up my time. Honestly, I haven’t taken a moment out to even think about blog postings, and forget even keeping up with RSS feeds. Today, for the first time in I-don’t-remember-how-long I actually spent some time catching up on Ross’ blog, something I used to do almost daily.
Yesterday, a good friend of mine went through a quintuple bypass (yep, five of ‘em). He joined a gym that’s associated with a local hospital, and they require new members to get an OK from their doctor before beginning a workout regimen. After a stress test and in-office EKG, he was forwarded on to a cardiologist for follow-up who performed a catheterization to clarify what he was seeing. Within moments of completing the cath, my friend had been admitted to the hospital and they did open heart surgery yesterday morning first thing.
I stopped by to see him in the ICU this afternoon. He’s doing pretty well, considering the fact that he just spent several hours on an operating table hooked up to a heart/lung machine with his chest spread open. He went into defib this morning (not uncommon, they say), which is why they’ve kept him in ICU. Hopefully by tomorrow he’ll be moved into a regular room.
So I guess he can honestly say that he joined a gym and it saved his life. I’m just glad he went in for the surgery under his own power, and not in an ambulance. Find a loved one and give ‘em a hug…right now. You just never know what might happen.
