QuickBooks 2001 Install on Windows XP
If you’re like me (and probably many other small business owners), you bought QuickBooks Pro 2001 about 4 years ago and were so irritated with the commercial-laden behemoth that QB had become that you vowed never to upgrade it. That’s all well and good, but nowadays if you want to install QB Pro 2001 on your shiny new Windows XP Pro computer, you’re in for a rude awakening. Put simply, it doesn’t work very well and your system will start popping up error messages.
DUX Computer Digest has a wonderful overview entitled How to install QuickBooks Pro 2001 on Windows XP and Update It. In the interests of providing information in multiple locations, here’s my boiled-down overview of what’s in that article (and just in case it ever goes away and I need this stuff in the future):
- Install QuickBooks as usual. It’ll fuss and moan about not being able to install IE 5.5. Don’t worry; we’ll fix that.
- Browse to the QBOOKS folder on the QuickBooks CD and run msjavx86.exe. Reboot Windows when instructed.
- Go to c:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Pro and run reboot.bat to fix up references. Reboot Windows again.
- Manually update QuickBooks from the QuickBooks Product Updates page (Click “Manual Download” and grab the latest version from there). Reboot Windows yet again.
There’s lots more info in the article. Recommended.
